Our History
John A. Downey, Jr. began his metal fabricating career in 1964 when his father opened a metal fabricating company near Atlanta, GA. Growing up working in the shop during days off from school and summer vacation, John started as a helper and as he grew older he began operating and learning shears, press brakes, punch presses, rolls, saws, many forms of welding, layout, design, drafting, blueprint reading and installation techniques.
John left the family business in 1996 after his father's retirement and founded Downey Metal Products, Inc.
Since 1997, Downey Metal Products, Inc. has provided the same quality products that his father began to teach him 40 years ago to the architectural, commercial and industrial business communities.
By offering installation services along with our products, the customer avoids the excessive costs & delays associated with "middleman" installers. Many fabricators want to just sell their product "F.O.B." their dock door, but Downey Metal Products can provide the installation crews and equipment or installation consulting. This "turn-key" philosophy has allowed Downey Metal Products, Inc. to become the preferred provider of fabricated metal products for many architectural, industrial and commercial contractors.
Downey Metal Products, Inc. offers CAD generated shop drawings, engineering, order tracking, material finishing: Hot-Dipped Galvanizing,
Kynar Painting,
Anodizing, Lacquering, Plating, Powder Coating or Polishing, Crating, Delivery and installation.
Downey Metal Products, Inc. is licensed and carries high levels of premium insurance to protect our customers against accidents, and we are bondable for the projects that require it.
